Ambient Light

As much LED as the daylight needs.

CYRA uses your camera like a light sensor: it measures how bright the image is, estimates the tone of the light and adjusts the LED strip to match. Cover the camera with your hand, turn it towards a window or change the room light, and watch the LED adjust itself.

  • Runs on your device
  • No model download
  • Model: No model · brightness and colour tone measured from the image

How to try it

  1. Turn on the camera; the measuring points over the image light up with the brightness of each area.

  2. Change the surroundings: dim or raise the light, show the camera a window, cover it with your hand.

  3. In the panel, see the LED strengthen as the ambient light drops and dim as it brightens, with its tone following the surroundings.

Your camera permission is used only on this page and only when you turn it on.

Your image never leaves your device: no frame is recorded or sent.

Measurement starts when the camera is on.

Values are relative: the brightness the camera sees, not a lux measurement; the camera's auto exposure and white balance partly cancel out changes.

CYRA log

  1. Once you turn on the camera, we start talking here.

Behind the scenes

  • For each measurement the image is reduced to 64×36 points; the average brightness is the relative ambient light. It is not a lux measurement; it is the brightness the camera sees.
  • The LED output is just enough to bring the ambient light up to the target level: the energy-saving principle known as daylight harvesting.
  • The colour tone is estimated from the red/blue ratio; the camera's auto exposure and white balance partly cancel out changes, and the colours in the frame also affect it. A change of state is accepted through threshold bands and after 1.2 seconds of stability.

Where it helps

  • Pergolas and winter gardens: LEDs that rise on their own as evening falls and dim in daylight.
  • Office lighting: daylight control that gives less light by the window and more in the interior.
  • Shop windows and signs: brightness by ambient light, a screen that is easy on the eyes at night.
