Safety Zone

If someone is underneath, the roof does not close.

A demonstration of a safety idea: the louvres of a virtual pergola are closing. The marked zone in the frame stands for the area under the closing roof. The moment you step into the zone, the motor stops and holds a safe stop; once the zone is clear, the louvres carry on closing from where they stopped.

  • Runs on your device
  • ~8 MB on first start
  • Model: EfficientDet-Lite0 · person detection (COCO) + zone rule

How to try it

  1. Turn on the camera; a marked zone appears in the frame and the virtual pergola in the panel starts to close.

  2. Step or lean into the zone: it turns red, the panel says “Motor stopped · safe stop” and the closing progress freezes.

  3. Step out: once the zone has been clear for 1.2 seconds, the louvres carry on closing. When they are closed there is a short pause, then a new cycle.

Your camera permission is used only on this page and only when you turn it on.

Your image never leaves your device: no frame is recorded or sent.

In the demonstration the louvres close in 12 s and carry on once the zone has been clear for 1.2 s. In a real installation this decision could go as a “stop” command to a motor control board (for example the CND series).

CYRA log

  1. Once you turn on the camera, we start talking here.

Honest note: this is a demonstration of a safety idea. It is not a certified safety device, and it does not mean the boards we sell have camera-based stopping. A real installation needs obstacle-detection sensors and safety measures that meet the relevant standards; a camera does not replace them.

Behind the scenes

  • The person detector runs about seven times a second. A person counts as “in the zone” if the centre of their box is inside it or at least 40% of their box lies within it.
  • There is no wait before stopping: the motor stops at the first measurement that sees a person in the zone. To carry on, the zone must stay clear for 1.2 seconds without interruption, so a detection lost for a moment does not restart the motor.
  • In a real application this decision could go as a “stop” command to a motor control board such as the CND series; here it goes to a virtual pergola. The camera’s field of view, the light and a partly visible person all affect detection.

Where it helps

  • Bioclimatic pergolas and awnings: an extra layer that watches for people underneath while louvres or fabric close.
  • Automatic gates and barriers: a warning that holds the movement while someone is in its path.
  • Around machines: an idea for slowing or stopping movement when someone enters the work area.

Example use ideas; we design the right one for your project together.
